60 Seconds with Martin Tresidder

Somehow it’s now a month since Martin Tresidder joined the ranks at Milligan HQ. He’s certainly hit the ground running, heading straight into major projects in Torbay with press days and a public consultation for Union Square, in the centre of Torquay. We took some time out of his schedule to delve into his career history and past experience.

What are the top 5 developments you’re most proud to have delivered?

  • Bath Southgate: A 360,000 sq ft mixed-use, award-winning generational redevelopment scheme in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath.
  • Heart of the City, Sheffield: A mixed-use development comprising approximately 2 million sq ft of residential, retail, leisure, commercial offices, tech hubs, a library, makers’ space, and improved public realm.
  • Friars Walk, Newport: This regeneration project included 400,000 sq ft of retail space, a bus station, and extensive public realm. It would be hard to find any project of this scale that was delivered faster from the initial meeting to the opening.
  • Whitbread Premier Inn UK and UAE Estate: Whitbread was my first client-side role where the speed of delivery was immense. I was fortunate to work across the whole of the UK and also did the initial work to take Premier Inn to the UAE.
  • Port Pendennis, Falmouth: A scheme from a long time ago… Land reclamation, tidal dock, and new marina basin, surrounded by a mixed-use residential and leisure development.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role at Milligan?

There is so much to do in the regeneration realm. The world has changed so much in recent years and many of our towns and cities are no longer providing what people want or need. Milligan have the skills and experience to make a real difference and bring much needed vision and regeneration across the UK.

What’s on your desk/in your bag?

Always my headphones. I love that whatever obscure music or niche podcast you want to listen to, it’s all available!

Where’s next on your travel bucket list?

Japan! We are going there in October next year. We plan to visit most of the key locations and can’t wait!

If you could give one piece of advice to anyone starting out in Development Management, what would it be?

Walk the development and really understand the area. No matter how much you think you can understand a development from drawings or plans, there is nothing like walking the development and the area you’re seeking to regenerate. Each time you do this, you will see and understand something new.
