James Milligan joins Milligan to lead meanwhile-to-worthwhile activation strategies

Successful regeneration isn’t simply about what gets built, it’s about creating momentum early on. By activating spaces before development is complete, we can bring communities into the journey, test new concepts, attract visitors and establish a sense of place from the outset. Done well, meanwhile uses become much more than a temporary solution, they help shape stronger, more resilient destinations for the long term.
So, we’re very excited to welcome James Milligan into the team. James will help us develop new experiences, cultural activation and meanwhile uses across the Milligan portfolio.
Having built Backyard Cinema into one of the country’s most recognised immersive entertainment brands before its sale to Sony Music, James has spent his career turning underused spaces into destinations people want to spend time in.
Working across our projects, James will help develop “meanwhile to worthwhile” strategies that activate places earlier, engage communities and stakeholders and cement place identity in culture driven activations, underpinned by operational excellence. From events and markets to food, culture and entertainment, his work will help create energy, build audiences and unlock value from day one.
As demand grows for activation-led approaches to regeneration, we’re delighted to be adding another dimension to the way we shape places and experiences.
