Leonard Design has been appointed and will be working with the Council, Willmott Dixon and Milligan to evolve and enhance the vision for Torbay’s town centres.
The team of experts will build on the extensive work already undertaken by the community, through the development (and adoption) of the Local Plans and Neighbourhood Plans. The work being undertaken will complement this work to create a comprehensive and forward-thinking plan for Torbay’s transformation.
The team from Leonard Design has extensive experience with the public and private sectors, specifically in creating places that people want to live, work, play and invest in. The Milligan team has worked with Leonard Design before on a number of high profile projects, so knows their skills and delivery capability well.
Over the coming months, Torbay Council, Willmott Dixon, Milligan and Leonard Design will be actively engaging with stakeholders and the community. Through a mix of face-to-face workshops, meetings and conversations, Torbay residents will get the opportunity to view the proposed vision, the key elements that will link major regeneration sites together and share their feedback and ideas.
The collaborative approach will ensure that the team has a framework of opportunities and priorities that reflect the true aspirations and needs of the community, investors, local entrepreneurs and the visitor economy.
Cllr Chris Lewis, Cabinet Member for Place Development and Economic Growth for Torbay Council, said; “The addition of Leonard Design to our expert team is a significant milestone in our regeneration partnership and brings us a further step forward in getting projects delivered.
“To ensure we create a Torbay that meets the needs and aspirations of current and future generations, it is vital we develop a cohesive delivery plan that makes us an attractive place to invest in”.
Stuart Harris, CEO for Milligan; said; “We want to make sure that what we deliver for Torbay brings about tangible long-term benefits. Over the course of the past eight months, we’ve met and had lots of positive conversations with a wide range of people across the Bay. Collectively we are looking forward to further engaging with the community as we all work together to repurpose Torbay’s town centres”.
David Leonard, Director of Leonard Design, said; “We are thrilled to be joining Torbay on their regeneration journey. Our ethos is ‘Think, Innovate, Excite’ and through our work we want to bring the community on the journey to ensure the future look and feel of their town centres is responsive to their needs and recognises and celebrates Torbay’s culture and heritage”.
