Milligan is proud to be working with Telford Homes on the forthcoming development at Chrisp Street. As part of our work on the retail strategy, we have been supporting the delivery of a lively marketing and events programme, designed to drive trade for retailers and engage the community via new experiences, interactive workshops, culture and entertainment.
The Summer Series events, part of these ongoing efforts, exemplifies this mission by offering a dynamic mix of activities that celebrate the unique character of Poplar.
During the latest Summer Saturday event, Market Square was buzzing with activity as the local market operated alongside food stalls offering delicious treats and live music that echoed through the surrounding streets. The event featured an array of engaging activities designed for family fun. Children and adults alike enjoyed hula hoop workshops, colourful bunting, rhythmic drumming sessions, and face painting, creating an atmosphere of joy and unity.
One of the highlights was the drumming workshop, where the beats brought smiles to everyone’s faces, encouraging people to join in and feel the rhythm. Volunteering opportunities were also a key part of the event, with three enthusiastic volunteers from Poplar HARCA sharing their time and energy to make the day a success while also gaining some great event coordination experience.
Sara, one of the volunteers, shared her thoughts on the event: “I enjoyed volunteering at Chrisp Street Market, it was a great experience. Seeing the community come together and participate in the activities made it a positive experience. My favourite part of the day was working at the art table. I loved the creativity involved and supporting the children and parents with their art projects. Chrisp Street Market events are a fantastic way to engage the local community and help people learn more about the area. I would definitely volunteer again for these events.”
Tarah Gear, Director of Brand and Place Futures at Milligan said “Whilst the focus of these events is often about driving commercial objectives, we have started with the community in mind. It’s diverse and rich with culture and entertainment that we wanted to provide a platform for. Shoppers here are residents and friends – everyone know’s everyone and the community have put their stamp on what’s taking place over the summer. From making bunting to hang in the market, to choosing the films that will be shown during the outdoor cinema event. The goal is for both the community and the local businesses to thrive.”
