As part of the exciting plans to transform Union Square Shopping Centre in Torquay, Milligan’s Development Director, Martin Tresidder, recently visited Ellacombe C of E Academy School to hear directly from the people who will be using the new space the most—the next generation!
The visit was a fantastic opportunity to tap into the creativity and fresh thinking of young minds. The students were eager to share their thoughts, offering imaginative and insightful ideas about what they’d love to see in the revitalised Union Square. From green spaces and social hubs to tech-friendly areas and entertainment zones, their suggestions reflected a real passion for their town’s future.
Martin Tresidder was hugely impressed by the enthusiasm in the room. He said:
“The energy and creativity from the pupils was incredible. They were full of great ideas, from spaces where they can hang out with friends to ways we can make the area more sustainable and exciting for all ages. It’s so important that we listen to them—after all, they are the ones who will be using this space for years to come!”
Milligan is committed to making sure the new-look Union Square is shaped by the whole community, and that includes the voices of young people. Their input is crucial in creating a space that is vibrant, welcoming, and future-proofed for the next generation.
With plans for new homes, retail spaces, leisure facilities, public areas, and even an NHS centre, the redevelopment of Union Square is set to breathe new life into Torquay. The public consultation concluded at the end of last year, and the team is now preparing to submit a planning application, ensuring that the final vision truly reflects the needs and aspirations of the community.
