Early site investigation works are soon taking place as plans to transform the former St David’s Shopping Centre area in Swansea gather pace.
The works will be undertaken by regeneration specialist Urban Splash as part of working up proposals for the site in a joint venture with Milligan.
The site investigation works are taking place on Thursday 11th April, and then for approximately one week from Monday 13th May. A section of the grassed area outside St David’s Church Hall will be fenced off while the works are ongoing, with every effort made to ensure minimum disruption to the public.
Detailed mixed-use proposals for the St David’s site are currently in development and will include a public sector hub as well as a new city office quarter, generating new jobs within the region as well as boosting city centre footfall for surrounding businesses and beyond.
Commenting on the proposed plans, Swansea Council Leader, Rob Stewart said “The proposals being led by Urban Splash and Milligan for the site in the area of the former St David’s Shopping Centre are a key part of our major regeneration plans, and will bring new life to the city centre.
They’ll help develop seamless links between the city centre and hotspots such as the arena and waterfront, while also creating an abundance of jobs for our local community, bringing more footfall to the city centre businesses. Detailed proposals are currently in development, and – once ready – will be made available for the public to feedback on.
Site investigation works of this kind are a standard part of the process for regeneration projects of this scale at the initial stages.”
